About ten years ago I read a fabulous book called Your Best Year Yet. It was written by Jinny S Ditzler (1994). Ditzler suggests that with ten questions and three hours of study and reflection you can change your life and create Your Best Year Yet.
I am not sure about only three hours of study and reflection. It took me more than three hours, maybe others are faster readers, thinkers and writers. Although, I do agree that the book is a great tool that could be useful for making a plan and creating the best year of your beautiful life. I also believe it could be used as an strategy to continually reflect on who you are and where you have come in your ‘journey’ so far. I have designed my New Year Intentions folder as a ‘journal of my journey’ and an annual reflective activity and tool for my goal setting process.
Each January I look back at my lists of intentions, resolutions, annual focus and tasks. I ask myself; “what did I achieve?” “What did I do well?” “In what area of my life have I been awesome?” (I like that bit!!) Then I give myself a metaphorical pat on the back for work well done, for the maintenance of my intentions and for being awesome.
I also reflect on my mistakes, disappointment and self sabotage moments. I know that I set out in January to do great things. Get healthier, be nicer to people, exercise and generally live a more holistically healthy lifestyle. BUT .. somewhere during the year I sabotage some of those great efforts and plans. Maybe I cancelled my gym membership (no exercise), I avoided my friends (not nice), or ate junk food (unhealthy) and I forgot all about those plans to meditate each day, to open my heart and to breathe deeply!!!!!!!!
This year dear friends will be an awesome year, filled with forgiveness, much love and holistic achievements. My absolutely awesomeness, best year yet!
